The winner of Big Brother 21 was crowned, and he was completely shocked to learn that some of the things he said and did in the house were seen as aggressive, racist or both.

  • When people watch you 24/7, listen to your every word, watch your every facial expression and analyze it, there are going to be misunderstandings and judgments.
  • When you’re a 24 year old man with very little life experience, you probably don’t even understand that some of the things he says and does could possibly be misconstrued, especially since you haven’t had a lifetime to learn how to control your emotions.
  • Sometimes your own personal world view is just wrong. But guess what? You have a right to it!

I enjoy watching this “social experiment” because I learn a lot about regular people from different walks of life. Although in my work I have met all kinds of people, because I’m not working in an international, centrally located, heavily traveled hospital, there is a limit to the cultures I come into contact with. Even “American” culture is widely diverse compared to the “California Central Coast” culture.

The take away from this news source today was similar to the one I had yesterday. If you pay attention to people, they will teach you about yourself. Even if it’s not your intent, your words and actions can have positive AND negative effects on others. What you do with that information is completely up to you. My goal is to become more self aware.

Survivor- Island of the Idols premiered tonight!!! The first reality TV show I ever became addicted to is in it’s 39th season. That is a really long time, and the game has changed DRAMATICALLY over the years. Compared to the very first season, people are hitting the ground running with their strategic play and they are playing HARD. With the new twist (only one Survivor is privy to it so far) people will have to adapt their game accordingly. The problem is, by the time they realize they have to adapt, the tribe has spoken.

I am reflecting on the changes in our culture since the first season, and what I see is people moving so fast and working so hard that they can’t see the moment right in front of them. Sure, it’s a competition for a million dollars, but the odds are against you the moment you get stranded on that beach, so you might as well enjoy the experience…

With the first blind side of the season behind us, this is what I observed. It’s a lesson I learned from one of my mentors. YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE FRIENDS WITH EVERYONE! Sometimes it’s a good idea to just be quiet, watch and listen, and let nature take it’s course.

Politics

Today was a big day in American Political news. There’s another investigation into President Trump and the Democrats are pushing for impeachment.

I only have one thing to say on this subject, and that is this. The news media’s job is to inform us, but it is wise to remember that there is always a spin. Reporters might give us the “basic” facts, or they might just give us their opinion. Before you become enraged about this or any other story you hear on the news, do your own research.

I hope you enjoyed my daily news update!
